Submissions are now due on Wednesday 10 October – giving you almost two extra weeks to get things finalised. Of course you can submit earlier – the eAwards portal is always open for submission uploading.

The Rate Your Visit Program will also be extended to Wednesday 10 October – so you have extra time to get your visitors to provide feedback. The Awards coordinator will come around after this date to collect all completed surveys and other survey items (regional entrants – please post yours back as soon as possible).

The Awards are assessed through a combination of a written submission, site visits by judges and visitor experience appraisals. The consumer experience has been a key focus of the Awards program since the Mystery Shopper program launched in 2005.

The 2012 Canberra and Capital Region Tourism Awards program sees the launch of an enhanced consumer assessment program ‘Joe Tourist’. This program will ensure that the Awards are influenced by actual consumer perceptions and, importantly, the visitor experience offered by the entrant.

Visitors to nominated businesses can opt in to complete a simple survey covering all elements of the tourism experience. The top three consumer rated business will receive the first Joe Tourist Award for tourism experience excellence.

In light of this enhanced consumer assessment, the nomination period for the Canberra and Capital Region Tourism Awards has been extended until the 28th June. It is essential that nominations by this time to enable a complete ‘Joe Tourist’ Awards package to be made available to all relevant entrants.
