Winners in categories 1-25 at the Canberra Region Tourism Awards go on to represent Canberra and the region at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.
Winners in these categories from each of the state and territory Tourism Award programs proceed to become finalists and compete for the gold, silver and bronze awards.
There is no direct entry into the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.
The 2016 Australian Tourism Awards were announced on 24 February at the Awards Presentation in Darwin.
The Canberra region was represented by eleven finalists. Canberra Airport won gold in the Specialised Tourism Services category for the second year in a row; Floriade received silver in the Major Festivals and Events category category; Questacon also received silver in the Major Attractions category; and the National Folk Festival was awarded bronze in the Festivals and Events category.
